Nursing Team

At ASCTE, the health and well-being of our campus community is a top priority. Our on-campus clinic is here to support residential students, day students, faculty, staff, and families living on campus. With experienced nurses available Monday through Friday, 7 AM–7 PM (and contract nurses during weekends), we’re committed to keeping everyone healthy and ready to thrive.

How We Support Students

  • Health Education: Promoting positive habits for a healthier lifestyle.
  • Daily Care: Addressing everyday illnesses and injuries.
  • Medication Assistance: Safe administration and monitoring of medications.
  • Chronic Condition Care: Personalized support for ongoing health needs like diabetes, asthma, or ADHD.
  • Emergency Readiness: Prepared to handle unexpected health situations.
  • Health Resources: Managing health records and connecting families to community resources.

We encourage students to take an active role in their health by practicing self-advocacy, being responsible with medications, and staying up-to-date with vaccinations and screenings.

Illness Guidelines

To keep our community safe, we’ve established clear guidelines for illness management, based on the State Health Department and CDC policies:

  • Fever: Students must be fever-free for 24 hours (without medication) before returning.
  • Vomiting or Diarrhea (6+ episodes in 24 hours): Return 24 hours after symptoms subside.
  • Pink Eye/Rashes: A physician's note is required before returning.
  • COVID-19: Follow current state and federal guidance.

Reminder: A physician's note is required for all illness-related absences to be excused.

Medication Policies

Students can receive over-the-counter and prescribed medications with proper approvals (via the Prescriber Parent Authorization form). Important notes:

  • Controlled Substances (e.g., ADD/ADHD or anxiety medication) must be handled by the clinic, not students.
  • Self-Administered Medications like inhalers or EpiPens are allowed with proper medical authorization.
  • Parents are responsible for collecting unused medications at the end of the school year. Unclaimed medications will be disposed of safely.

Chronic Conditions

For students managing chronic medical conditions, our nursing team works closely with families to develop Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs). Our goal is to ensure students feel supported and safe. Common conditions we assist with include:

  • Diabetes
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Asthma
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Migraines

All student health information is handled with care and privacy under FERPA guidelines.

Extra Health Support

  • Sports Injury or Neuro/Spine Concerns: SportsMed, in partnership with Crestwood Medical Center, provides evaluations and support for ASCTE students, Monday–Friday, 7 AM–6 PM.
  • Sick Visits & Testing: HEALS, Inc. is available for sick visits (and flu, strep, and COVID tests) Monday–Thursday, 8 AM–3 PM, and Friday, 8 AM–12 PM.

Note: Our campus nurse clinic is not certified to perform lab or diagnostic testing.

We’re here to keep students healthy and ready to succeed! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact our nursing team—we’re always happy to help.
